Acronis Backup and Recovery 11.5 Workstation vs Advanced Workstation

A backup and recovery solution is essential software for any business, whether you're small, medium, or large. Choosing the proper backup solution does take some time, as you want to make sure that you're getting all of the features that you need, as well as finding a solution that works every time you need it to. After all, you don't want to encounter major problems with your IT infrastructure and need to run a recovery, just to find out that your solution doesn't work. Two editions of workstation backup solutions worth your consideration are Acronis Backup and Recovery 11.5 Workstation and Advanced Workstation.

Acronis Backup and Recovery 11.5 Workstation provides you with a way to quickly get your computers back up and running. It uses a disk image backup, so that all of your affected systems are restored exactly the way they were when the image was taken. If you don't want to have a complete image of a system, and you'd rather just restore individual files or folders, you can setup this type of backup as well. It's also compatible with physical and virtual environments. If you prefer image backups, but you still want the option to only restore individual files and folders from the image, Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Workstation does this as well. This software also supports many different media types, such as FTP network shares, USB HDDs, optical media, removable media, and Acronis' cloud storage option. The platforms that it supports are physical computers, VMware, Red Hat and Parallels virtual machines, citrix, Microsoft Hyper-V, BIOS systems, MBR, and dynamic disks, among others. You can also save your backups to more than one location, and encrypt them so the data is not falling into the wrong hands in case there's a security breech.

Pros:

- Less expensive than advanced workstation
- Can upgrade to Advanced Workstation if needed

Cons:

- No centralized server
- No deduplication

If you're looking for a more feature rich version of Acronis Backup and Recovery 11.5 for your workstations, you might want to consider going with the Advanced Workstation version. The main difference between the Workstation and Advanced Workstation editions is centralized management and deduplication.

If you're on the fence about whether to spend the extra money on Advanced Workstation, you can always go with the regular workstation edition first and upgrade to Advanced Workstation if you feel that you need it. Acronis also offers free trials of both software editions, so you have the option of trying before you buy if you choose. The Acronis Management Server gives you centralized control over backups and recovery. You use this server to perform remote backups, and it also facilitates users performing self-service user friendly backups that won't require your intervention at all.

Pros:

- Centralized backup and recovery server
- Self-service end user recovery
- Deduplication

Cons:

- More expensive

Both editions of Acronis Backup and Recovery 11.5 offer valuable features that keep your data safe in the event of a disaster. The image based backup solutions give you a way to quickly get your workstations up and running again after an issue has occurred. If you want centralized management of the backup and recovery process, you'll want to go with the Advanced Workstation edition. Otherwise, the standard Workstation edition will serve your organization's needs.
